Roller Setting Relaxed Hair with Nutress Wrap Guard Foam Wrap

Nutress Wrap Guard Foam WrapThis weekend I tweaked my roller setting regimen a bit by using a new product. I purchased the Nutress Wrap Guard Foam Wrap from my local Walgreens and thought I would give it a try with my rollers on Saturday.
This foam wrap does everything it claims on the bottle. There were no flakes, left my hair soft, and I had pretty fast drying time in spite of other leave-ins applied.

So here is a quick step by step of how I roller set my hair using the Nutress Foam Wrap.

Wash Phase

1. I pre-treated my hair with Coconut Oil overnight (Friday night).
2. The next morning I co-washed with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner
3. I deep conditioned for 30 minutes (with heat) with ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner (light protein).
4. I rinsed the ORS conditioner out very well with cool water.
5. I lightly sprayed my hair with the Aphogee Keratin Green Tea Reconstructor.

Style Phase

1. I applied Almond Oil to my wet hair
2. I followed up with the Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Leave in conditioner
3. Using the Mohawk Method, I parted my hair in five sections
4. I applied the Nutress Foam Wrap to each section.
5. Nearby was a spray bottle of water to keep my hair damp.
6. Using the Diane Mesh Plastic Rollers (Love these rollers!!!), I sectioned my hair to install the rollers. I detangeled with a wide tooth comb, smoothed each section of hair with a smaller tooth comb.
7. After all rollers where installed, I sat under the dryer for 45 minutes and these are the results...

See how my gray hair is taking over! Let my research on Henna continue! :D Stay Tuned!

The Nutress Foam Wrap left my hair very soft and flowy! My curls were more loose than normal, but I love curls with length. I received compliments all day about the style and also on how long and thick my hair is getting!

The Lord is blessing me with growing hands, but I'm still waiting on those "styling hands". Lol... So, when I walk out of my own bathroom with salon results I am beyond excited!

I purchased the Nutress Foam Wrap for around $5. It may be available in your local Sally's beauty store, on Amazon or you can purchase directly from nutresshair.com.

If you have any questions or comments, please post them below. Click here to watch my roller setting video using oil, conditioner, and water...always tweaking. ;)

Have a Happy Hair Day Ladies!

Roller Setting My Relaxed Hair

Here's a video I recorded a few months ago when I was on somewhat of a roller setting challenge. The main goal was to not use direct heat via a flat iron.

Since my hair is currently relaxed, I try to stay away from anything else that may cause damage (flat irons, blow outs, color treatments, etc.). Applying this new regimen has forced me to hone my roller setting skills. It hasn't been easy, but it has been worth it.

I am constantly changing my roller setting technique, but this one seems to work best for me so far. Soon after I use up some products (because I am a recovering product junkie...), I will be purchasing the Carol's Daughter Macadamia Heat Setting Foam. I have heard great reviews on using this product for roller setting.

I hope you enjoy the video and if you any questions, comments, or roller setting tips... just leave them below!

Blessings!

Two Methods That Help Me With Wash Day Detangling

Saturday April 12th, 2014, I had a frustrating experience with tangles. At the time I was only 8 weeks post relaxer and since I have learned how to manage my new growth, 8 weeks should have been easy; but not so.

I was perplexed, confused, and did not have an extra hour in my day to comb through tangled hair.

I headed back for the shower to co-wash with my Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner. This conditioner usually gives me a lot of slip and since I didn't have much time I prayed that this would help.

Co-washing made detangling a little bit easier, but my plans to roller set my hair went out the window. I pulled out the blow dryer and my new Amika flat iron (which I love so dearly), and officially ended my no heat stretch at 5 months.

After blow drying and flat ironing all was well with my hair world again. It was a rough day, but I made it through. :D

The only thing I could recall doing differently was how I moisturized my hair throughout the week before wash day. I strayed away from my staple Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter moisturizer to use some other moisturizers I had on hand (S-Curl & Hawaiian Silky) .

Honestly I just wanted to use them up, but instead I will be giving them away. They are good products, but it is important to stick with the products our hair loves best.

So my first method to combating detangling on wash day was to moisturize and seal with the Elasta QP again. If I go into a wash day with well moisturized hair, it makes detangling a nice cool breeze. I didn't realize before how a good daily moisturizer can really enhance your wash day experience!

The second method I used for combating excessive tangling was given by Jay from relaxedthairapy.com.

Normally I wait until the end of my wash regimen to detangle. She recommends running a comb through the hair after cleansing (while rinsing), when rinsing out your deep conditioner, and again after applying your leave-ins... when your hair is 95 to 100% dry. Read her full post here.

I applied both methods and had an excellent tangle free wash day this weekend at 9 weeks posts and counting!

My hair is super soft and manageable.

God bless!

Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Split End Defense Cream

The Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Split End Defense Cream made its way to my local Wal-Mart and I was so excited to see it on the shelf!

I started my hair journey as the Long Term Relationship Leave-In Conditioner was phasing out and the Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Split End Protector had taken its place. Then after just a few months into my journey the Herbal Essences Split End Protector was being discounted and discontinued from local stores here in Cincinnati.

The Long Term Relationship Leave-In Conditioner received rave reviews all over YouTube and I loved the Split End Protector. So I was so happy when I found the Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Split End Defense Cream this morning!

This cream/moisturizer is now made with pomegranate essences and promises 20 hours of smoothness. This product is designed for proactive use against split ends. It promises to keep your ends 10 times stronger and prevent breakage.

So what's my first impression? How does it compare to the Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Split End Protector?

First, I LOVE the fragrance. It is much more soothing and delicious than the former Split End Protector. The
consistency of the product is similar to the Protector and the average moisturizer. It is light on the hair if used as directed (1-2 pumps onto ends of wet hair).

I applied this product onto dry hair, because, well....I just couldn't wait until wash day. :) And I only used about 1 pump for my entire head…half a pump for each side. It didn’t melt into my strands like other moisturizers I’ve tried but still, it's moisturizing, and the fragrance lingers on my strands. It’s pomegranate yumness!

When I started my hair journey the Long Term Relationship Leave-In Conditioner was impossible to find where I live, so I can't give this version a fair comparison to that one.

The Long Term Relationship Split End Defense Cream doesn't top my favorite moisturizer, the Elasta QP Moisturizer Olive Oil & Mango Butter, but it's still a good product. It is especially a great moisturizer for the price.

I found it at my local Wal-Mart for $2.98 for a 6 oz. bottle. Since a little goes a long way, it's a great bargain for those of us on a budget!

The Ingredients List…water/eau, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, dimethicone, zea mays (corn) silk extract, rubus idaeus (raspberry) fruit extract, hydrolyzed silk, glutamic acid,  benzyl alcohol, fragrance/parfum, citric acid, disodium edta, sodium chloride, methylisothiazolinone.

Shopping for this product online may cost you more than you want to pay. If it is not on your local shelves yet, it may be more cost effective to just wait it out.

I will use the Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Split End Defense Cream again on wash day and see how it responds. I have a feeling, this one will be a staple product...but we'll see how long this one stays on the shelves.

Blessings!
